Welcome to West Coast Posse!

Posse: Origin:
1575–85; < Medieval Latin posse power, force, noun use of L infinitive: to be able, have power, equivalent to pot- ( see potent) + -se infinitive suffix
Whether Michigan's West Coast or California's West Coast, if you're facing North, the lake or the ocean will always be on your left. Helpful if you're directionally challenged.
In this case, West Coast Posse represents a power group for and about women living on the west coasts of either southern California or southwest lower Michigan. The name for this site was inspired by this original blog post, and the thought process grew from this original blog post. West Coast Posse hopes to become a model that spreads from west coast to west coast, to all parts in between and beyond to counteract the Mean Girl behavior that is so prevalent in popular media today. Shows like The Real Housewives, Jersey Shore, and anything on MTV or VH1 are leading young girls and young women to behave in ways that grown up women in the real world don't, even though so much of what they see and therefore believe says otherwise. West Coast Posse wants to set a positive example, and hopes others will start a Posse in their neighborhoods.
West Coast Posse is the brain child of Kim Jorgensen Gane, and grew from the influence of a multitude of amazing women in her life. We hope you'll become one of them!

What you will find: positivity, inspiration, tips, pointers, reviews, helpful information about a bevy of womanly topics.
What you won't find: pessimism, ranting, negativity, hate. So if you can't find something positive and uplifting to say, please do what your momma taught you and keep it to yourself. Do you have to live on either west coast to find it empowering, fun and informative? We hope not. If you're visiting this site, you probably know it's creator/contributors, or you know someone who knows its creator/contributors, or you know someone who knows someone who knows its creator/contributors. You get the idea. Anyway, peck around! We're glad you stopped by! <-- Anyone who knows Kim, knows the significance of birds in her life. Accident? We think not! And she kinda has a thing for jewelry. Be sure to visit the WCP Style page to meet two more of our favorite WCP jewelry artists (and let us know if you would like to become a contributor!). |
PLEASE NOTE: The year, 2013, appears at the top of the disc because the thirteenth year is lucky, of course. And this being the year of the snake in Chinese New Year lore, who happens to be a female water snake, means it's a year in which anything is possible, especially for women. We're taking a little creative license to say that Cancers (of which Kim is one) will be UNSTOPPABLE this year, because they are a water sign. The jury is still out to see if we can confirm that, but we sure like the way it sounds. We also heard that, in the order of balance and yin and yang theory, if it's a year of the woman, then it must also be a year of the man, so partnerships between men and women should be particularly fortuitous, and certainly if you believe it, it will be so. The power is within YOU! Make your wishes come true!

West Coast Posse Women
In the short year that this site has been in existence, a trend has revealed itself. Many women in this country, in the world, feel they have no power, no voice, no choices. Women
too often see themselves as victims, don't reach out for help, or even reveal that they struggle. Each one of us has a story, and our stories matter. West Coast Posse wants to share women's stories. I can't express the difference a beautiful portrait can make, because that in itself is empowering, in job searching, in building a business, or just to feel good about one's self. Even if you have a picture of yourself that you like, someone with professional editing tools can probably do much to improve it, as Alissa Sheftic of Sheftic Communications & Imagery, did with the terrific picture my husband took of me. She made poor lighting, tired, and old look young and luminous, if I do say so myself-ish! I hope to empower women to see their own beauty--inside and out--and to tell their stories; to spread the Power that is Within All of Us, in this 13th year, when anything is possible. If you are a woman, or if you love a woman who has achieved the success we all strive for, please contact us at West Coast Posse to share that gift with others. <-- If you are a woman with a story to tell, visit the contact page to request an application. |
Philosophe of the Posse
We "mature" women need to set a positive example for the young women in our lives and in our communities. I have two daughters and four nieces, and I know from personal experience that a young girl's life can go south in a hurry. Once there, it can be difficult to forgive yourself and get back on track. Young girls and young women look to their peers and popular media to figure out how they feel about themselves from one day to the next. Unfortunately, too many of the images they see on a daily basis are images of objectification, intolerance, just plain hate and even violence. They see people getting richly rewarded for behaving badly, women being desired for curves they don't yet possess, people hurting one another physically and mentally and becoming popular for it, they give of themselves recklessly because they're so very afraid of being unlovable and alone on a Saturday evening. It's important that we mentor and talk to young women to help them to see past the mire of middle school and high school and young adulthood. We can help them to remember the essence of who they are and who they've been from the time they were very little, by showing such kindness and compassion to ourselves and to one another. We can support one another in our business endeavors, encourage one another in difficult times, and simply laugh together and be friendly. We can take an interest in one another and help one another find our true essence and our bliss, and share a passion for life, for what we do and for our families with those around us. For centuries, women have represented a huge support system for one another. I fear the busy push and pull of every day life and the struggle that so many families have experienced in recent years, has made us lose sight of the importance of women in our lives. West Coast Posse hopes to bring women together in a positive way that offers strength, hope, kindness and sets a great example for the younger women we know. This is the post that built this website: My Posse.
